Singer-Songwriter, Composer, and award winning Mandolinist and Guitarist Bruce Graybill, is based in the Kansas City area. He is an endorsing artist for Weber fine acoustic Instruments made by Sound to Earth Ltd., Digital Power Systems Inc., Aphex Systems Inc., and Dunlop Picks. He presently performs as a Solo Artist, and in various ensembles in the Kansas City area.


Bruce is a Two Time 1st Place winner of the prestigious “Walnut Valley Mandolin Championship” at The National Flatpicking Championships, a Five-time Kansas State Mandolin Champion, and the 1997 Kansas State Flatpicking Guitar Champion. He was voted one of two ‘Private Mandolin Instructors of the Year’ in 2003 by the Internet Mandolin discussion list ‘Comando.’


Notable performances include The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN., The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in Washington D.C. and Classical Mandolin Society of America conventions in Louisville, KY., San Diego, CA., Atlanta, GA., Alexandria, VA., Philadelphia, PA. and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.


In February 1999 he performed his original composition ‘The Walnut Valley Suite’ with The Providence Mandolin Orchestra, at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. The Providence Mandolin Orchestra released a CD including that work after their European tour in 1999. The suite has become a popular performance piece in mandolin orchestras across the United States, and has also been performed in Austria, Bolivia, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Peru, Spain, Uruguay and extensively in Japan.


Bruce is an Executive Advisor for The Classical Mandolin Society of America Inc. after having served two terms as President of the organization. He is presently composing works for Mandolin Orchestra, preparing a Mandolin instruction book entitled “Seventy-Seven Head Bangin’ Hot Licks for the Procrastinating Mandolinist,” and has several recording projects in the works that range from Mandolin twin tune arrangements with an accompanying book, to a solo recording of his own Mandolin arrangements.

He was voted one of two ‘Private Mandolin Instructors of the Year’ in 2003 by the Internet Mandolin discussion list ‘Comando.’ He is primarily self-taught as a Mandolinist, but has had the privilege of limited studies with Don Stiernberg (Jazz Mandolin), and Keith Harris (Austria), Gertrud Weyhofen (Germany), Ugo Orlandi (Italy), and Tamara Volskya (Russia) in Classical Mandolin.


Graybill was invited to speak at the Internationales Mandolinen-Symposium in Trossingen, Germany, on the subject of  ‘Mandolin Culture in America.’  The trip was sponsored by the Classical Mandolin Society of America Inc.

Bruce released his first solo recording 'Mandocranium, an acoustic stringed Fantasy' in 1992, and was recorded with ‘Drastic Measures’ on the 1993 KCBBR release ‘Live Bluegrass from the Heart of America.’ In February 1999 he performed his original composition ‘The Walnut Valley Suite’ with The Providence Mandolin Orchestra, at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. The Providence Mandolin Orchestra released a CD including that work after their European tour in 1999. The composition was first performed at The American Mandolin and Guitar Summer School (AMGuSS) in 1998, was performed in the world’s largest festival of plucked string music, ‘Euro Festival Zupfmusik 2006’ in Bamberg, Germany, and recently performed in the ‘4th International Guitar Seminar’ in Uruguay 2009. The suite has become a popular performance piece in mandolin orchestras all across the United States, and has also been performed in a Austria, Bolivia, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Peru, Spain, Uruguay and extensively in Japan. Graybill is a BMI Publisher (Mando Kinetics Music) and Writer member.
