It is with great sadness that I announce that Ray Bell, extraordinary Guitarist and teacher, and my duo partner of more than 10 years, passed away this morning at 7AM. He had fought a long battle with bone cancer. Ray was a professional Guitarist, and Guitar and Mandolin teacher in Little Rock, Arkansas, for more than 45 years. He played with many famous touring musical acts that passed through Little Rock, and was drafted by the head of the Guitar program at the University of Little Rock to teach Guitar there a few years ago. Ray has had a Mandolin Scales and Studies book out with Mel Bay for many years, and was included in their Mandolin 2000 book. He arranged a lot of music for many different ensembles, and a large amount for Mandolin, both solo and with Guitar. His was the biggest musical mentor of my lifetime, and his life was very well lived. May he rest in peace. Click here to read Ray’s obituary. Also, please share your stories about Ray Bell with all of us on the Ray Bell Memorial Blog.
